Artist's Comments
This Stone Circle is made up of 64 large stones enclosing a low earth platform; there may originally have been about 80 stones. Stone Circles like this one were built in the later Bronze Age (1400-800 BC). We do not know what they were used for, but they were probably associated with religious rituals which may have included observations of the sun and the moon.
A stone head found at this site was probably carved in the pre-Christian Iron Age (400 BC - 400 AD) and may indicate that this monument remained a place of ceremonial activity for many centuries after it was first built. Beltany - from Bealtaine (connected with the May festival; origin obscure) |

As of September 2009 =ImaginaryRosse joined the project and will be helping us out with the weekly choices. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. As of recent, the talented =Behana has joined us in bringing you this weekly newsletter and we are excited to have her on board.
